Our vineyard is located on the eastern side of Escondido, a city built on agriculture and growing grapes. The climate is ideal, and by 1883 vineyards were planted in abundance. By the early 1900s grapes were Escondido’s largest crop, with thousands of acres planted. By 1920, Escondido had at least a dozen wineries. But only one survived Prohibition, and the “hidden valley” turned to citrus and avocados.
My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Napa Valley. Bam! We fell in love with fine wine. We planted grape vines on our Escondido property to replace an aging avocado grove. They did well and we got pulled into viticulture. That’s when we learned what it takes to make excellent wine: be a great wine grower.
After years of study, research and hands on learning with a number of notable, talented and generous winemakers, we have developed a style and vision that matches the best of what our micro climate and the South Coast AVA has to offer.
Our mission: to make the best damn wines we can to share with family and friends, while protecting and improving the land we farm for future generations.
